Baby Preston

I have been dying to get my hands on a newborn to take some baby photos, and last weekend I finally got my wish. Thanks to Sarah for letting me use her tiny Preston. Preston was a preemie, so at three weeks he is super-tiny and super-cute. Since he was in the hospital a little longer than we planned, he had already started to stretch out, but I think we still got some great shots. (Note, if you know Sarah, please act surprised when you get your Christmas card!)

How cute is that little smirk? Makes me think there may be something to that whole visions of sugarplums thing…

So sweet! Look at those lips!!

Although his aunt assured me that he was a typically preemie who sleeps all the time, he was actually awake for most of the shoot. But, we managed to get a few good ones even with him wide awake.

Although I feel this would have been better with a TCU or FSU jersey, it’s still pretty stinkin’ cute!

So sweet. Wish you could really tell how tiny he is.

And finally, one just because I love baby feet!

Lisa’s Family

My friend Lisa asked me to take some photos of her family while they were all in town for Thanksgiving. So, I briefly tore myself away from Black Friday sales to snap a few photos of the gang. A few firsts here…it was the largest group I’ve done so far and it was the first time I’d used my new 50 mm lens with a larger group.

This was an odd topic, but as soon as I read it, I knew I had to get E reading in the bathtub. This is her new thing. I think it makes her feel grown up. She can read in there until she’s shriveled up. Photographically speaking, our bathroom is horrible. The white, white tile and the lack of good lighting makes it difficult, so I did a little PP with these to try to help. Not sure I’m happy with either, but still fun. I guess she’s outgrown the cute baby pics in the tub and moved on to this…

Picked Up the Camera

I’ve been lazy lately. I put down my camera and have only been using it for events. I haven’t been trying to learn anything new or push myself any further. But, over the last week, I’ve decided that I need more “right brain” activity, so I’m back to work at shooting and editing. My first project, Sam. He was in a foul mood today. Just one of those grumpy days for him. Captured this serious shot, then decided to play with a Curves layer to make it pop a little. What do you think of the before and after? His lips remind me of Snow White, but I like the mood of it.

Project 64 – Lavender

As the mother of a girly-girl, I thought this would be an easy color to find around the house. But, as luck would have it, I wasn’t home. But, I was able to find a little lavender while away at a girls’ weekend at the beach.

I know the horizon is smack-dab in the center of this, but I tried cropping it several different ways and just couldn’t avoid it. Question for my photo-friends: is the diagonal of the rock line strong enough to overcome the fact that the picture is split in half? How would you have framed this differently? (I tried a stronger camera tilt, but those didn’t look good, either.)

Haircut Day

It’s baseball season, so S has been bugging me to give him his summer buzz cut. I made a deal that if he’d let me take some pictures of him with his gorgeous hair, then I would buzz it. Then, of course, E wanted in on the deal and agreed to some photos if I would cut her hair, too. Here they are, with full heads of hair…

I’ll try to get some tomorrow with their new hairstyles, but I’m doubting that I get lucky enough to get both kids to cooperate two days in a row.
